PreAlpiTour Hike&Fly Race

is an international competition that combines trekking and paragliding among mountain huts and alpine pastures in the southern Dolomites, Venetian Prealps and Lagorai.

A continuous change of environments, colours and landscapes, among dolomitic rocks and volcanic porphyries, until the sea of the Venetian lagoon comes into view.  The athletes have four days in which they must walk or fly to 7 turn points and complete the course.

The place

The PreAlpiTour Hike&Fly Race 2023 has three mountainous areas that are close to each other but quite different. The competition takes place between alpine refuges and alpine huts in the southern Dolomites, the Venetian Pre-Alps and the Lagorai: a continuous change of environments, colours and landscapes, between dolomite rocks and volcanic porphyries, all the way to the sea of the Venice lagoon.

The Race

The athletes have four days in which they must walk or fly to predetermined turnpoints, located at alpine huts or high-altitude Alpine pastures, sign their photo on the board and reach the next one.

In order to be able to complete the race, each athlete must rely solely on his or her own legs, taking into account the weather conditions and orography for the flight and his or her own physical fitness.

The athlete, together with his supporter, must choose the best flight strategies and the paths that suit him best, and then fly again to complete the course within the set time. Race days start at 7 a.m. and end at 9 p.m.

The PreAlpiTour Hike&Fly is inspired by the famous X-Alps, but the rules and the route make it much more accessible also to pilots, with a fair amount of experience, who wish to approach the world of multi-day hike&fly competitions.

Preconditions

> Multi-day Hike and Fly competition experience.
> Long-distance mountain hiking experience.
> Valid paragliding licence and insurance (liability, helicopter and medical).
> Decisive character that always puts personal safety first and ranking and competition second.
> Safe toplanding in thermally active conditions.

Start - Para Delta Club Feltre

Turnpoint 1 - Malga Davanti

DAVANTI is a malga located on the summit of Mount Novegno in the municipality of Schio (VI). From its 1560mt it stands out on the plain dominating the Leogra valley and overlooking the overwhelming sunset of the Little Dolomites. On clear days you can see the Apennines and the Venice lagoon in the distance. Reactivated in 2022 after a long period of abandonment, DAVANTI today is a place of experiences to share where you can “taste the excellence” of the area and be overwhelmed by artistic and cultural events. The take-off is a free-flying enthusiast’s dream: wide, facing south and suitable for paragliders and hang gliders. The perfect take-off to reach nearby Mount Pasubio.

Turnpoint 2 - Malga Campo Mandriolo

Protected area, 1700 mt.
Malga dedicated to sport and cultural events.

Turnpoint 3 - Maso tais

The Maso Tais farmhouse is located at the foot of the Pale di San Martino, just 10 minutes from Fiera di Primiero, in the enchanting Val Canali at an altitude of 1200 meters and enjoys a breathtaking view over the Primiero valley.
Classic rural farmhouse, renovated and re-proposed in a warm and welcoming family-run style, where we try to revive the reality of the past with traditional peasant dishes and “0 km products”.
Starting point for various excursions of various levels, destination for family walks and take-off point for paragliding enthusiasts, especially for the guys of “Primiero Dolomiti Fly”.
Reachable by car from Tonadico following the signs for “church of San Vittore” or from the beautiful Val Canali taking the ss347.

Turnpoint 4 - Rifugio Scarpa

The Refuge owes its name to the original owner, the Venetian painter Enrico Scarpa and to the engineer. Ohannes Gurekian who met here, linked by a great passion for the mountains.
Enrico Scarpa (1891-1935), on 12 September 1912, made the chalet usable by using it as a private studio and dedicating it to his daughter, born from his marriage to the noblewoman Itala Teresa Casari. When her father died, her daughter transformed the chalet into the first refuge, refreshment, for hikers.

Turnpoint 5 - Rifugio Consèria

The Consèria Refuge 1848msl located in the wild heart of the Lagorai rises in a panoramic position below Passo 5 Croci, from here excursions depart towards Cima d’Asta, Cima delle Stellune, towards the numerous alpine lakes and the open-air museum and the trenches of Cima Socede . The refuge can be reached on foot, by mountain bike and only for the truly hard-headed.

Turnpoint 6 - Malga Cima Campo

Malga Cima Campo is located above the municipality of Arsie’ at an altitude of 1500 meters.
It enjoys a 360 degree panoramic view. From here, looking around you can admire the Dolomites, the Lagorai chain, Monte Grappa, Valsugana and the Feltre valley to the east.
Historical place due to the presence of Forte Leone, a military fortress built to defend against the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the First World War

Turnpoint 7 - Ristorante Genziana

The sitting room of Feltrino, located in Val di Lamen at an altitude of 750m. Departure for numerous excursions of all levels of difficulty.
The only entrance to the park in the municipality of Feltre accessible to cars. Window at the foot of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park.
Theater of numerous sporting events
An enchanted place where you can eat the best polenta and schiz in the province of Belluno.
